Privacy Policy
For Skinny Scanning on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android and Wear OS, by LyteFast. Last updated: 22 October 2026
Who this covers
This policy covers the Skinny Scanning app ("the app", "we"), published by LyteFast (the developer name on its Google Play listing) and available on the App Store and Google Play. Skinny Scanning is run by LYTEFAST, 60 rue François Ier, 75008 Paris, France, which is responsible for your data under this policy. Contact: support@skinnyscanning.com.
It applies to Skinny Scanning 2.0 for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and to Skinny Scanning for Android phones, tablets and foldables and Wear OS watches (package co.lytefast.skinnyscanning). The app is built so that your food data stays on your own devices, and this policy explains it in plain language.
Version 2.0 replaces the earlier Skinny Scanning calorie tracker. It has no food diary, no body profile and no AI photo service: nothing is sent to OpenAI or to any other AI provider.
The short version
- There is no account and no sign-up.
- Your scan history, progress and settings are stored on your device.
- The only thing the app sends over the internet is the barcode number of a product you scan, to look the product up in a public food-product database (Open Food Facts).
- Meal photos are analysed on your device and never uploaded.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); we never see your payment details.
What the app stores on your device
- Scan history: product names, brands, barcodes, ingredients, nutrient values and scores, the foods recognised in a meal photo, and a small thumbnail of that photo.
- Progress: streaks, points, levels and badges, your quiz answers, and which studies and explainers you have opened.
- Settings: language, haptics, scan mode, and whether you accepted the disclaimer.
All of it stays in the app's private storage on your device and is never sent to us. "Clear Scan History" and "Reset progress" in Settings delete your history and progress, and deleting the app deletes everything.
- iPhone and iPad: if you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, that backup can include the app's data; Apple's terms apply to it.
- Android: the data is kept in the app's private storage (a local database and app preferences). Android Auto Backup is turned off for the app, so its data is not copied to your Google account backup. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes everything.
Apple Watch
If you use the Watch app, your iPhone sends it a summary to display (your weekly score, streak, level and recent scans), and the Watch sends your quiz answers back to the iPhone. This goes directly between your own paired devices through Apple's WatchConnectivity and never passes through a server of ours.
Wear OS
If you use the Wear OS app, your Android phone sends your paired watch a summary to display (your weekly score, streak, level, recent scans and the app's translations), and the watch sends your quiz answers back to the phone. This goes directly between your own paired devices through the Wear OS Data Layer of Google Play services and never passes through a server of ours.
What leaves your device
- Barcode lookups. When you scan or type a barcode, the app sends that barcode number to Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org), a public food-product database, to fetch the product's name, brand, ingredients, nutrients, NOVA group, Nutri-Score and image. The request carries the app's name and version and nothing about you. As with any internet request, the database's servers see your device's IP address, and Open Food Facts' privacy policy applies to that request.
- Product images. Result screens load the product photo from Open Food Facts' image servers.
- Study links. "Open study" opens the publisher's page in your browser, under that site's own policy.
- Sharing. If you tap Share on a result, your device's share sheet sends the result card to the app or person you choose. Nothing is shared unless you do this.
Meal photos
Food recognition runs entirely on your device. Photos are never uploaded anywhere. The app keeps only the small thumbnail in your scan history described above.
- iPhone and iPad: recognition uses Apple's Vision framework.
- Android: recognition uses Google's ML Kit image labeling with a model bundled in the app. Google's ML Kit library runs on the device; Google's terms for ML Kit apply.
Subscriptions
App Store. Skinny Scanning Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple Account, and we never see your payment details. The app checks whether your subscription is active with Apple's StoreKit on your device; it does not send receipts or purchase details to us or to anyone else. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings. Apple's privacy policy applies to purchases.
Google Play. On Android, the Skinny Scanning subscription (monthly or yearly) is sold through Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment and your Google account, and we never see your payment details. The app checks whether your subscription is active with Google Play on your device; it does not send purchase details to us or to anyone else. You can manage or cancel your subscription in the Google Play app under Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. The Google Privacy Policy applies to purchases.
An access code (for example one given to app reviewers) can unlock the app on a device. Whether a code was redeemed is stored only on that device.
Permissions
- Camera: to scan barcodes and photograph meals, only while the scanner is open.
- Photos: the app reads only the photo you pick in the system photo picker.
Both are optional: you can type a barcode instead. On Android the app also uses internet access (barcode lookups, product images and Google Play), vibration (haptic feedback) and Google Play billing. The app does not request your contacts, location or microphone.
What we do not do
- No account or sign-in.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, tracking or third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone.
- No servers of ours that store your data: we do not run any.
If you have turned on "Share with App Developers" in your iPhone or iPad settings (Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share anonymous crash reports and usage statistics with us. On Android, if you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google may share anonymous crash reports with us through Google Play. These are Apple's and Google's features, and you control them in your device settings.
Your rights
Because the app sends us no personal data, we hold none to access, correct or delete. You can see and delete everything the app stores from within the app. For your purchase records, contact Apple or Google.
Children
Skinny Scanning is a general-audience educational app and is not directed at children; on Google Play it is listed for adults (18+). It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
